1. Introduction

Ranked.jp (“we”, “our”, or “the site”) operates a job board and professional network for software engineers and related professionals in Japan. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to ranked.jp and our related subdomains.

2. Information We Collect

When you create an account or profile, we collect information you provide directly, including:

  • Your email address (used to sign you in via a single-use “magic link”).
  • Profile details you choose to enter — such as your name or display name, title, description, skills/tags, location, and a profile image you upload.
  • Your saved preferences and consents (for example, whether your profile is listed publicly and whether you opt in to opportunity emails).

We also automatically collect limited technical and usage data through Google Analytics, including:

  • IP address (anonymized where applicable)
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type
  • Pages visited and time spent on the site
  • Referring websites
  • General geographic location (e.g., city-level)

3. How We Use Information

  • To authenticate you and maintain your signed-in session.
  • To create and display your profile, and to rank and personalize jobs, companies, and people for you.
  • To list your profile on the public Talent Network, but only if you opt in. If you do not opt in, your profile stays private.
  • To send you account and, if you opt in, job-opportunity emails.
  • To understand site usage and improve performance and content.

4. Profile Visibility

Your profile is private by default. It is shown on the public Talent Network (and accessible by direct link) only when you enable “List my profile on the Talent Network”. Your email address is never shown publicly. You can change this setting or remove your profile information at any time while signed in.

5. Email Relay

To protect your real email address, we may issue you a proxy address at our messages subdomain. Messages sent to that address are filtered and forwarded to your real email, so other users can reach you without seeing your actual address. We process the contents of these messages only as needed to deliver and filter them.

6. Cookies

We use a strictly necessary, HttpOnly session cookie to keep you signed in. Google Analytics also sets cookies to collect the usage data described above. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; disabling the session cookie will prevent you from staying signed in.

7. Where Your Data Is Stored

Your account and profile data are stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the Tokyo (ap-northeast-1) region. Uploaded profile images are stored in AWS S3. Account emails are sent using AWS Simple Email Service (SES).

We do not sell or rent your personal data. Information you choose to make public (such as an opted-in Talent Network profile) is visible to other users. We otherwise share data only with the service providers listed above, or where required by law.

We retain your account and profile data while your account is active. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics settings. You may request deletion of your account data as described below.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location (including Japan and other regions), you may have rights regarding your data, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your information, and to object to processing. You can edit or remove most profile information yourself while signed in, or contact us using the details below. You can also opt out of Google Analytics using the browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
